Programme 2027
The “Courante figurée” in the Long 17th Century
Consistency and Change in Steps and Variations
A weekend course with Hubert Hazebroucq, France
Numerous sources confirm the great popularity of the courante in Europe from the late 16th through the early 18th century, when it was the epitome of gallantry.
This course offers the opportunity to trace the development of the basic steps of the courante and its variations over more than 100 years. We will then turn our attention to the various choreographic forms: the “Courante figurée an der Hand,” new reconstructions of the courantes from the Rawl. 864 manuscript, and de Lauze’s “Courante reglée,” which reveal parallels to later sources extending into the early 18th century.
The courante invites you to experience the pleasure of leading or being led—embedded in a highly refined form in which subtle variations between gentleness and cheerfulness, delicate musicality, and spatial movements entirely attuned to the partner reveal both mastery and mutual attentiveness.
The course is aimed at advanced amateur dancers and dance educators who wish to devote themselves intensively to the courante and its development over the centuries.
The course will be taught in German.
